Where It All Began

The Artist

Yakub Patel was born and brought up in Mumbai india. He migrated to Britain in 1964 and has lived in Bolton since there. He took up painting as a hobby in 1978 and has created 240 paintings. Which are widely acclaimed by art critics and lovers of paintings

Recognition

In 2011, yakub visited india where lots of people took interest in his paintings. He was invited to rastrapati bhavan by the then president of india “shrimati Pratibha patil”. Yakub presented a painting to pratibha patil which is part of the president’s collection. He also met “Sonia Gandhi” , the then congress president and presented a painting to her. .

Sonia Gandhi admired the artistic quality of the painting. Similarly a painting was also presented to Sonia Gandhi’s secretary “ Ahmed Patel”. The times of india and the Indian express publish the news items as a british artist of Indian origin presenting paintings to top Indian leaders and called it as a moment of pride

I am very grateful to former president of India “Mrs Pratibha Patil” president of Indian national congress “ Mrs Sonia Gandhi” and Mr Ahmed Patel for spring their valuable time and accepting my paintings and not only that but also decorating them on the walls of the rastrapati bhavan.

Yakub worked closely with british artist Thomas Watkins who was his mentor and friend , yakub has got 300 paintings by Thomas Watkins.This is a rare collection and any art lover would be proud to posses these historic paintings.
